November is National Diabetes Month. During this time, we want to bring awareness to the condition that affects 9.4% of the U.S. population. Diabetes causes the body to either not produce insulin or to not use insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone that enables the body to use sugar for energy, or store it for future use. When insulin levels are not being used properly, energy levels are effected and long-term health complications can occur. This can include heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, and in some cases; death. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 and Type 2.
