About Lyrica
In 2004, the anticonvulsant Lyrica (also known as pregabalin), from Pfizer, Inc., was approved by the FDA for the treatment of epilepsy and diabetic neuropathic pain. In 2006, Lyrica was further approved to treat the pain associated with fibromyalgia and spinal cord injuries. Until 2008, it was the only approved treatment for fibromyalgia and was heavily marketed for the treatment of that disorder. However, Pfizer failed to ensure that it adequately disclosed the risks associated with the drug, including an increased risk of suicide.
